View Full Version : how much can i pay for a 1973 mercury montego mx?

Hi I'm about to buy a 1973 mercury montego mx with 351 engine....the exterior is in real good condition....interior has usual wear n tear of a 36 year old car but an easy fix I think.....but it needs a little mechanic work....its been sitting for 2 years...the guy who I'm buyin it from said it was runnin b4 he parked it....n it needs just minor stuff like replace battery..sparkplug n sparkplug wires....he is asking 500.....I'm no mechanic....I don't knw if I cud believe him about the minor work....I don't wanna take it to a mechanic and the guy says it will cost a lot to fix it....so plz help...can I get it for 500 n is it worth spending up to couple more thousand if I have to on this car

500 for any complete car is worth it. you could part it out and make your money. especially the 351. you could sell it. if all itneeds is the minor work you should have it running for a few hundred. but it would still run with old plugs and wires, bring a battery, crank it up. and even if the motor had to be rebuilt, most places can rebuild a motor stock for under 1000.
