I've been to 2 repair shops (one being the dealership) and both have told me the winding noise (sounds like an airplane) they assumed was a wheel bearing is NOT- but rather - either a transmission or a PCU problem (AWD). No lights are on the dash and without having to HEAR the noise...it drives and shifts as normal.
As anyone had this problem? is it worth fixing? (cost est. between $1500-$8000 and they won't know until they tear it apart (an $800 charge). I am caught between a rock and hard place ...one mechanic told me he'd drive it until it died...then you'd know what it was! HELP!

Sometimes a worn or scalloped tire or tires can be confused for a wheel bearing type of noise, too.
