When Ford bought Volvo back in 99-2000, they started to intregrate all the same safety features into their Ford products that have given Volvo the safety ratings they have earned.
Safety Cage construction - Unibody - crumple zones - stage 2 airbags - side curtain airbags - two side door safety rails - etc. They are extremely safe automobiles and have been given very high marks for their safety.
They are also very good cars, sporty looking and easy to maintain as you can go to any Ford, Lincoln, Mercury or Volvo dealership to get them worked on.
Good luck with your decision. I am a Volvo/Lincoln Mercury Consultant in Connecticut so if you're nearby, or even if you just have a question or two, contact me at
