my overdrive light in my 1999 mercury mountaineer is blinking on and off...

...repeatedly as i drive.? When i'm at a dead stop, foot on the brake, the light turns green and I step on the gas, it takes a minute to catch. When it does it seems to be jumpy. Also when driving the rpms gage jumps as if I had suddenly pressed the gas. I just bought this fucking truck used less than a week ago and it was fine, now im thinking tranny problems right? But that wouldnt explain everything else would it? somebody help a white boy out would ya!

i own a repair shop,and you need to take it to a transmission shop,your getting transmission problems with it ,and if you keep driving it like this it may wind up having to be rebuilt,the way it is they might can save it,it may be a minor thing,but i wouldn't count on it right now ,check the fluid in it,and see if it smells a little burned in it,,id say it might at this point,,but have it checked out real good ,,and take it to someone who knows about transmissions ,not an ordinary mechanic,i hope it can be repaired,,good luck with it,,i Hope this help,s.and have a good thanksgiving.

You might have the transmission stuck between Drive and 2nd.This caused a similar problem on my truck before and the OD light came on blinking.I just shut off the truck and restarted it and cleared the blinking with a OBD scanner and it was alright.If this is your problem just remember to keep the transmission right on D and not in between the D and 2!
