How do I open the subwoofer compartment on a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer/Ford Explorer?

I have a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer that came stock with a Mach I audio system. I had swapped it out and I blew my aftermarket subwoofer and I can't figure out how to open the compartment. I can see where the three locking things are on top but I just spend 30 minutes trying to open them and it didn't work. So how do I pop this cover off?

You have to take off the whole panel.You have to remove the rear seat belt and the rear seat on the passenger side so you can pull off the whole panel.Then you will have access to the speaker housing to remove the sub woofer.It's a PAIN for just a sub woofer replacement trust me i did on my 98 but it's same set up as the 2000
