Default 2002-2010 Mountaineer Recommendations

Newbie over to this forum so please bear with me.

I'm the market for a larger SUV as my wife and I are expecting twins and my little Saturn Vue is not going to cut it when we all go out as we also have a son. I've had 2 Explorers in the past but they were the first and second generation models with the solid rear axle. Both the Explorers I had were great trucks and never let me down so I figured it might be a good replacement for my Vue as the family's second vehicle.

Being the Mountaineer is basically the same truck as the Explorer with a better interior and looks IMO, I was wondering if any year was better than another. It has to be a 2002-2010 so it has the third row and I need the second row to have the 3 sections so I can take the middle part out so my son has easy access to the third row. I'd like a V8 model but I'd be open to the V6 as well. What should I be looking for when I shop for a used Mountaineer? What are the common problems and issues people have had?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Transmission is a common issue. The case is aluminum and the servos are stainless so the bores wear out. I fixed my wifes with a kit that replaces the servos with ones that are turned and have O rings on the shafts to reseal them.Got 30k more miles and now it's slipping in and out of gear so I need to replace the o rings again. Just look up 5R55 transmission and you'll find all kinds of info on the internet about it.
Hers is a v6 that hasn't given any issues with the motor and got 215k on it.
Blend door actuators are also a common problem but they are pretty easy to fix.
